I had an opportunity to interview junior offensive center Alex Kelley after practice today and I'll have up a front page story tomorrow morning. Here is the video and a couple good quotes:
On having a new starter on both sides of him...
Alex Kelley: “Gerrad Kough at left guard, he is coming on quite nicely. I love the way he plays, he plays super hard and he loves to hit. And then Shane Callahan and Jonathan Huckins are just fighting for that starting [right guard] job and they're both just getting after it every single day. I love seeing them compete and we'll see who eventually wins out.”
Is Gerrad Kough going to bring a little nastiness in the trenches for this offensive line?
“Oh yeah. As Coach Bernardi likes to say, he can ream a hole through a cement wall. So I am looking forward to seeing that.”
Are there any defensive linemen you've seen a lot of improvement out of over the course of the last year or so?
“Honestly I would say Justin Solis. He has been here for four years but I don't know what he did, he has taken to a completely new level. I have never seen him play this hard or this well so I am really excited to see how he does this year.”
