Hope everyone is having a great Holiday Weekend

For the first time if my old memory is correct we have a tie for first (predicted same score)
@jimp1968 as well as my self had 35CU 24 NDSU 6 point total- Since I disqualify myself
CONGRATS @jimp1968 on the WIN~!

Second place was a 3 way ties but with a clear winner, everyone predicted Colorado to win.
@Colorado76 and @NittanyBuff24 (good to see you at the game by the way) both had 9 points
But Second place goes to @mopper999 as he predicted the CU score exactly.
Congrats for 2nd place to @mopper999

Let's go Buffs!

Run game

Just rewatched some of the game and now feel better than I did last night. Opportunities for significant run gains were there. I hope they mix in more straight runs to allow the rbs a chance to get to the LOS with some momentum. Also the bubble screens show great potential, Horn’s drop could have been a TD. A few draws or a shovel pass will keep the LBs and safeties off the LOS. If the OL can keep QBSS clean with 5 or 6 rushers, a great passing game will open up the middle of the field for the RBs. Our big guys need to seal their guys off and create lanes and not worry about the

Big-12 Report Card

The Big-12 had an unsurprising first weekend at football. Of the sixteen schools, fourteen won, the only losses being WVU to Penn State (anticipated) and Houston to UNLV (not antiicpated.) Only two of the opponents were Power 4 -- WVU/Penn State, and TCU's win against Stanford. The TCU game was the only Big-12 contest not played at home.

Big-12 attendance for the first weekend, not all that stunning, was as follows:

1. BYU/Southern Illinois: 63,712
2. WVU/PSU: 62,084
3. Texas Tech/Abilene Christian: 60,229
4. ISU/North Dakota: 56,148
5. Utah/Southern Utah: 52,210
6. Ok State/South Dakota St: 52,202
7. KSU/UT Martin: 51,240
8. CU/ND State: 49,438
9. ASU/Wyoming: 48,108
10. Arizona/New Mexico: 44,748
11. UCF/New Hampshire: 44,206
12. Baylor/Tarleton St: 42,272
13. Cincy/Towson St: 37,654
14. Houston/UNLV: 25,750
15. Kansas/Lindenwood: 20,829

(Road game, TCU at Stanford: 36,026)

Run defense against NDSU.

I posted this as a response to another thread, but I think it deserves its own conversation.

Looking at the box score NDSU accumulated 157 yd on the ground, and 81 of those yards were or from the quarterback. Simple math says the rest of the team got 76 yards on the ground.

This is on top of 292 yd passing, with one TD.

Absent the quarterback's running they had 382 yards of total offense. If we can do that consistently game in and game out, that's top 50 in terms of total defense.

#1 That quarterback is damn good. He is their offense.

#2 I Don't understand why CU didn't put a spy on him in order to contain him from a running standpoint. But this also speaks to a lack of gap discipline on the part of the defensive line and LB's which is something that can be fixed and needs to be fixed.

#3 If you eliminate the explosion please these numbers look even better.

The bottom line for me is that these are all fixable issues.

Beyond the Obvious.....

... like a running game and stopping the run, what are some things you hope to see vs NDSU? A few on my list (in no particular order) :
  • Disciplined play, including no stupid penalties - especially for taunting/retaliation.
  • Improved clock/time out management by HC
  • No 12 men on the field penalties due to coaches indecision/poor communication
  • Improved open field tackling by DBs - including #12
  • TE involved in the offense at least a bit so D has to think about it.
  • Seaton holding his own @ LT
  • Seeing the team sing the Fight Song after a Win.

On to next week

I’ll be catching at least some of the NU game to see what I can from it.

I don’t buy into the 7-0 thing so many pundits are preaching. However, I have followed their recruiting and portal and they have a solid team with decent depth. Definitely look like a 7-8 win team given their schedule.

Want to see what the DL looks like along with RB and QB. Lots of good press on all three groups but NU is also a blue blood and so you have to take that with a grain of salt as the media would love to have a powerful NU again. It makes for good football.

This one could be ugly if we don’t figure out the OL and middle of the field on D. Last year NU had no QB. If they had even a decent QB that game may have looked very different. This year they have one. He’s a freshman but he is going to be very good. Hopefully it’s not until late in the season as he grows.

I’ve had this one as a loss since preseason but felt it would be close and could be a 3 pt game either way. After last night, if major change isn’t made, I see a world where they return the favor from last year and win by 2 scores.

Curious where others sit after last night and our inability to control the line of scrimmage against an FCS team
