Buffs NewsStand - Dec 15

Interesting take

I get part of it to a point, but bottom line this is P5 football not intramural sports, we have to win and when you recruit G5 at best athletes and top that with the $$$ that are in it now this is what u get.
I do agree with the coaching aspect, that is why I am glad he is bringing in very experienced coaches

Visit update: Linebacker commit Victory Johnson raves after latest CU official visit

Victory Johnson was a bit nervous when he started to see some of the other members of Colorado's class cut loose by the new staff. He had received promises about his own spot in the class from the administration at CU, but so had the others. Still, he stayed patient and felt like things would work out in his favor. He was very excited to hear about Deion Sanders taking over the Buffs, and he was more excited when Andre Hart called him to let him know the staff would be honoring his scholarship.

He was invited for a second official visit at Colorado, and he made the trip over the weekend to see Boulder once again. It was an enjoyable time that led to Johnson completely locking in his decision and feeling confident and excited about the direction of the program under Sanders.

I caught up with him to discuss all of that plus helping his brother earn a walk-on spot with the team plus much more.

"I love the energy of the coaches," he said. "I love coach Hart and getting to know him and getting to know Coach Prime. Those two guys, they really love the game, and they know what they're doing and what they're talking about. To see the vision they have and where they see this program heading with all the tools they have and all the connections they have and the staff they're bringing in, it's really exciting to see. Then for me, coach Hart loves my versatility, my length, my frame, my athleticism, and he wants all his linebackers to be like that. So, he decided to honor my commitment, and he's excited to get to work. I start in January, so we'll start in a month or so, which is really exciting."

Johnson will sign next week before arriving in Boulder next month to get a head start on his college career as a midyear enrollee at CU.

Visitor list: Dec. 9-11

Here is a look at the visitor list for this weekend in Boulder. It has grown since earlier in the week and will feature a number of local prospects taking unofficial visits at CU. Next week is shaping up to be another big weekend for the Buffs, but there is certainly a lot of talent expected on campus ranging from a key transfer (Tyrese Chambers) to committed recruits (Staub, Johnson & Zilinskas) plus key targets such as Dylan Edwards and Blake Purchase.

Kopp to transfer

Redshirt freshman quarterback Maddox Kopp is moving on from Boulder, announcing Monday that he will put his name in the NCAA transfer portal.

Kopp, who began the season fifth on the depth chart, made his collegiate debut when he started CU’s finale on Nov. 26, a 63-21 loss to Utah. He completed 15-of-28 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown.

A Houston native, Kopp transferred to CU a year ago after one season at Houston.

Kopp is the ninth player – and eighth on scholarship – to put his name in the transfer portal since the end of the season.

Overall, three of the five scholarship quarterbacks CU had this past season have put their name into the portal, including sophomore Brendon Lewis, who left the team in October, and true freshman Owen McCown.
