Houston transfer RB Alton McCaskill on his way to Boulder for an important visit with the Buffs. Arizona State and Florida have had him on campus already but CU has been the quiet leader for a while now. Getting him on campus is a big step with Deion Sanders and the staff looking to close the deal this week.

OT: Nocturne

Just got in from dinner at Brixton and a show at Nocturne.
The ongoing, monthlong celebration that seems to be turning 50. Took my amazing lady out tonight for all she does.

If you haven’t been and are in Denver both are great spots. Nocturne especially. They make great cocktails and it’s good music. Highly recommend if you live here or stay in Denver when in town for a game

Buffs Mens Golf advance to the NCAA Championship

Though I admittedly have never posted in this forum, I am an avid reader of the content. I stay silent but follow along because I love CU athletics. I am an alum who played for the golf team during the Hawkins/Embree era. With all of the crazy ups and downs CU athletics has seen, it brings me great joy to share that the CU Mens golf team has advanced to the NCAA Championships. They finished 3rd in a brutal regional over the last few days in Oklahoma. This is a tremendous accomplishment and wanted to shed light on the great things happening in some of the smaller sports we often overlook. Share some love to the CU Mens Golf Facebook if you get a chance. I’m sure those guys would love it.

Quotes from Coach O'Boyle - The Athletic

Behind Paywall

“I get it. Everybody wants to see us fall on our faces. No doubt,” O’Boyle said. “We’re getting pounded by all the other schools asking players, ‘Why are you going to Colorado? They are not established, etc.’ We know we have five million eyes on us, so we are not going to do anything out of line. But at the end of the day, when you play with that chip on your shoulder, you are a different cat. And those are the cats we want. We are going to get this thing done right.”

It’s clear that Sanders has imposed his personality on the rest of the staff in Boulder.

“He made it clear that we will do whatever it took to get better,” O’Boyle said. “He said it from the first staff meeting to our last meeting in spring ball right before the spring game. If he says something is going to happen, it usually happens. He’s that kind of guy. Coach Prime gave those kids a chance up through spring ball up until the last day to make it. Then the real decisions were made.”

As for why those decisions occurred so late? O’Boyle said there was no other way.

“The personnel was so bad here by the time we even got in pads, we knew some kids weren’t going to be with us post-spring,” he said. “We had to do what we did. And that’s why people don’t get it. I don’t how people ride our asses about it. We didn’t have a choice. I run into guys on the road that played us and tell us the same thing. Anybody that knows Colorado football knows this had to be done. And it’s a shame we had to get to this point, but we didn’t have a choice.”

Transfer Arden Walker talks family ties, other factors that led him to CU

From @Craig Meyer and I's interview with former Missouri DE Arden Walker, I wanted to further highlight his history with Colorado and paint a picture on how he eventually landed at CU. ⬇️

2022 Buff DE Chance Main commits to CU

Such an interesting situation, cool to see him return bigger (240 -> 270 pounds) and play for a likely more successful Buffs' team. Main began his college career at Independence (Kan.) Community College. Then he transferred to Incarnate Word, playing in 2019. At Incarnate Word he suffered a shoulder injury and wasn't picked up for the 2021 fall season.

Last year, Colorado offered him a spot and he started in all 12 games. He has a three-star rivals transfer rating.

Brian Howell of the Boulder Daily Camera talked to Main recently. Howell details the hectic journey Main experienced after the 2022 season.

Random Thoughts

1) Besides not having an experienced backup to Shedeur Sanders with three Scholarship QBs - the Buffs don't have enough arms to throw to their 13 or 14 WRs during fall camp.

2) Chance Main said he ran two 4.6 40s recently with his 6'4" 270 lbs frame. No wonder the Buffs wanted him back.

3) Demouy Kennedy is the guy I'd most like to see play finally. Imagine Nate Landman with 4.5 speed. The difference in the Buffs defense with Nate Landman patrolling the middle and when he was out was wide and deep.

4) The Buffs have only 13 guys listed on the current roster as seniors. That's not a lot of room for the 2024 recruiting class (though I'm sure some guys will be diving for the transfer portal). However, the Junior class has 24 players so the 2025 class of HS recruits will certainly be a big one.

5) Looking over the athletes in the Buffs front seven - sure looks like the base D will be a 3/4 D.

6) My favorite guy who doesn't talk much but I think will be a crowd favorite is edge rusher Jeremiah Brown. Going back to some of the training camp videos Jeremiah Brown was a complete standout in those drills.

7) It will be a crying shame if Prime doesn't give Charlie Offerdahl a scholarship in the run up to 85,

9) We have aired out a lot of opinions about the roster turnover - all valid points of view, but the part that bothers me the most having seen most of the Well Off - Thee Pre-Game and Reach the People videos is that it tuned the former players into props for those videos when they were all shone the door to the portal (especially if that was the plan all along).

10) The coaching staff will have an incredible job to sort out this roster and develop player roles and team cohesion in time for the TCU game.

Position Group Numbers

5/14 - Scholarship Distribution Chart

Honest question, just asking everyones opinion. Seems there is a lot of concern over the WR & DB position group numbers.

Is it really such a problem having a total of 12 WR’s (source, 5/14 Scholarship Distribution Chart)? 6 will be true freshmen and not all will play a lot. After all, it seems we will be a pretty heavy pass oriented offense, up tempo, and it appears to me the coaches are trying to create a lot of competition in order to put the best possible product on the field, also with adequate depth. Also, gotta figure CP really wants Shedeur to have a talented stable of WR’s. I know it's an emotional hot point that we lost two very capable previous starters, but, MLC apparently made up his own mind to leave, and seems there was doubt about Tyson’s knee going forward. It just doesn’t seem to me like this position of need is that overstocked.

I guess I have a similar view of the DB’s. We are in a pass happy conference with a number of very solid, big time, returning QB’s that we’ll be facing this year. Right now we have 6 CB’s, two of which have been promised thay can compete for playing time on both sides of the ball. There are 7 safety’s, again does not look overly excessive. Every year we have quite a few injuries at these positions. I think we have brought in some serious talent upgrades to compete for playing time in the defensive backfield.

I know everyone wishes we could find talented add ons at QB (back-up), another RB (preferably a bigger back), and several big bodied Interior DL types. I’m sure the coaches are looking under every rock for these players, just like everyone else is. We still have a number of scholly's left to beef up these areas of concern, if there are any legit candidates out there. If not, I don't really understand why it's such a problem to offer someone with talent and potential at other positions of need.
