Offense Moving Forward

Albeit against a weaker opponent, give the running game more than just a token glance and your QB stays clean, upright, is sacked and hurried less. Give the OL several chances to throw the first punch and their pass protection improves. What's not to like? Question is, did HCDS and OCPS learn anything? Will we go back to the run / pass percentage we saw against NDS and NEB or make Saturday night the game plan each and every week? Frankly, after watching the end of the first half and the final two minutes of the game, I have my doubts about the latter. With 2 minutes to go, we should not have thrown even 1 pass let alone 5 or 6. Whether Shurmur called them or SS checked to them it was total BS. Learn how to close out a game with the run so you can do it in a tight game. I guarantee that's what the OL wanted to do.

Let's have a report please on what a good time you had at the CSU game and how wonderful the CSU fans are. Maybe you can give us just a quick recap of all of your glowing comments about CSU football. I think this board would find this very interesting.

Week 3 CSU Prediction Results

I took the time to look at both threads just so no one would get upset 😆

Winner with best score sore far a prediction of CU 28 (PERFECT) and CSU 5 Total of only 4 points!!! -----
@Xeroes
@dtownbuff owes you an apology for laughing at your prediction! I'd say money or beer would make up for it but that is just me.

G5 vs G5
Appalachian State at East Carolina - 2:00 PM - ESPNU

Games with D1AA in them
Prairie View at Michigan State - 1:30 PM – BTN
Howard vs. Morehouse - 1:30 PM - CNBC

Good Slate of games in Week 3.

Including both conference and OOC there will be 12 P4 vs P4 (note the Arizona at KSU game tonight is an OOC game) and only 2 worthless D1AA vs P4 on non-streaming TV

In the P4 vs G5 there is three games where the P4 are playing at the G5 school.
Last night ASU went to Texas State
Oklahoma State is going to Tulsa
Cincinnati is going to Miami (OH)
Oregon is going to Oregon State (yes I know as of right now it is still a P4 vs P4 to many)
Utah is going to Utah State
BYU is going to Wyoming
Of course CU is going to CSU

How we feelin'?

Hey y'all how you feeling today?

A child has to crawl before it can walk. CU is not going to be able to "walk the walk" until the offensive line starts to crawl, then stand up and walk the walk with the rest of the team.

Put simply when CU commits to running the ball and getting really good at that is when we're going to start getting good results. In our proud history we have never been good when all we do is throw the ball. CU has been very good when we play defense and when we run the ball down the throat of the other team.

I think I have managed to divorce myself from outcomes at this point, even though I badly want our team to beat CSU tonight. Generally I'm hoping for incremental improvement and I'm hoping for life on the offense of line.

To answer my OP question I don't feel good about this game tonight. I say this in the sense that it's a trap game for CU because they're walking into a similar environment as they walked into last week in Nebraska. CSU will bring high energy, lots of pride in their team and their program. They're playing us at home for the first time in 30 years. Our offensive line sucks badly. And that's not something you can just flip a switch and fix overnight.

CU has more talent by miles than CSU. But I think CSU has their hearts invested in this in a way that CU doesn't. CU is kind of a superficial program with no foundation right now.

And that troubles me not just for this game but going forward. It's going to take effort and focus to improve and get to the point of where we can start winning. And I'm not sure that this team on offense is capable of putting together that long-term effort and focus in the sense that I don't know if they really desire to win for Colorado.

I think the key for CU to have a chance in this game and any game going forward is for the defense to step up and start owning their side of the ball for the entire game. And if my memory serves me, that's kind of how it goes for teams that are trying to crawl out of a hole like CU has been in. Defense takes over and starts keeping games to within a touchdown going into the fourth quarter and then get the ball back or create a situation that gives the offense a chance to win the game late. That's what I'm hoping to see in every game is the defense be the headline for CU while the offense figures their s*** out.

Buffs RB's

Like what I saw from Welch and Augusta tonight. Both had a hard nose, downhill style through contact. Welch took a big hit in the first half, bounced off and continued to fight. Very tough player for a true Freshman. Really like how Augustave keeps his pads down for a taller runner. Fumble was more about a great play by the defender more than poor technique by Augustave.

Of course, rather than pound the rock with 2 minutes to go in the 4th, we are trying to pad our passing statistics instead of working on the run game. My guess is SS was again checking out of run calls because "I saw cover zero and wanted to get ________ a catch. BS. Running the ball when CSU expects us to run gave us an opportunity to work on a situation we haven't been good at. Lost opportunity.
